Salt (2010) If you frequent my corner of the web you’ll know that I have a major love for action movies, the best are “female oriented action movies” and it seems that Hollywood has given the role is given to a few, fuck it they give it to only one. Angelina Joile. Next year she has a movie coming out that hits all my buttons for me. I am so enjoying this trailer but I so wished there were more movies with women with action genre on their resume. Sigh.
Synopsis:
[Call Me Al] Angelina Jolie stars in this thriller as Evelyn Salt, a loyal CIA operative who is in trouble when a defector names her as a Russian spy. Salt uses every skill and her years of experience to her disposal to elude capture by her colleagues. However every avenue she uses to prove her innocence, more suspicions come to light as they all begin to wonder, Who is Salt?

MTrailer: The Prisoner

The Prisoner (2009)
I didn’t know they were remaking “The Prisoner”. I watched the original series as a child on PBS. But this time is premiering on the AMC channel (combo producing of AMC and ITV) and from the previews it looks like an action action miniseries than the cerebral action television show of the 60’s. Either way it has Ian McKellen (as #2) and James Caviezel (as #6). I’m not a fan of this decade’s film and television TPTB’s need to remake and recycle every thing from the past but the battle between #6 and #2, whether action or cerebral, is something I really want to watch. So I go again into the breach and give hope that this is going to be good (It has Magneto and the Outlander, what could go wrong.
). It premieres November 09. See the 9 minute trailer below.
Synopsis:
[AMC] A man known as Six (Jim Caviezel) finds himself trapped in a bizarre place called the “The Village” led by a man known as Two (Ian McKellen). Two holds the secrets of escape, and Six must defeat him — or else stay in The Village forever.

Synopsis:
[Cinemablend] The movie first introduces us to Kat (Milla Jovovich), who lives in a shoddy New York apartment with her aggressive boyfriend Big Al (Angus Macfadyen). A very dominant character and respected gun dealer, Big Al is convinced he reigns over the entire neighborhood. When Kat decides to get into the gun business herself and starts selling weapons behind Al’s back, his jealousy tosses him into an explosion of rage that leads to a gruesome rape. With the help of a devoted social worker (Aisha Tyler) and her bisexual friend Vic (Sarah Strange), Kat finally finds the necessary courage to engage in a vicious act of revenge that could free her from Al once and for all.
Short Version: A story of how obsession, addiction and abuse leads a young woman (Jovovich) to execute an elaborate plan of revenge.
Review:
I don’t get bored with Milla Jovovich movies, this movie I can watch more than once but twice? That’s where it gets a little muddled. Watching it for the first time (this was after not looking at any movies with bi/poly attachments, so this group including this movie is from the batch I saw prior to vacation.) I was looking for different things for the blog like any bi behaviors and Milla (Kat) does exhibit them (I will say all the females in this movie) so I wondered in what context and it’s in her relationships; the bastard of a boyfriend, her female best friend who lust after her, the boyfriend’s friend and his rival who lust after her and the social worker who gets closer to her than the others. (In all these relationships she responds to all, some more strongly than others for her ends.)
On the second run I just watched and it plays as a simple deception movie. Once you figure out where the characters stand with main character Kat (Jovovich). She is a woman desperate to leave an abusive relationship but doesn’t know how. Or does she? Because as the story progress you already picked up one the facts is that she “relying on the kindness of strangers” or should I say “relying on the kindness of friends” a little to well. Almost manipulatively well….
Anyway, I stayed until the end even when I figured out the twist and all her deceptions fell into place there really was only two people who felt betrayed by her; one who deserved it and one who didn’t. All in all, rent if you can find it.

MTrailer: Gamer

Gamer (2009)
I saw a different trailer/commercial for this movie and saw John Leguizamo first and thought hey he doesn’t make supremely sucky films, then I saw Gerard Butler who I think is adorable but learned very recently via the Craig Ferguson show that Americans have been pronouncing his first name wrong. Ooops. It is closer to the Jared, like the Subway guy. Anyhoo between them and Michael C. Hall, Ludacris, and Kyra Sedgwick. If not, Oscar it seems like a good popcorn movie.
Synopsis:
[Wikipedia] In 2034, mind-control technology has taken society by storm, and a multiplayer on-line game called “Slayers” allows gamers to control human death row prisoners in mass-scale deathmatches. Any inmate who lives through 30 matches wins his freedom. Simon (Logan Lerman) controls Kable (Gerard Butler) the on-line champion of the game having won 27 matches and lived through them all, with his every move tracked by millions, his ultimate challenge becomes regaining his identity and independence by defeating the game’s mastermind (Michael C. Hall) through launching an attack on the system that has imprisoned him.

Tron Legacy (2010)
I watched this movie when I was a kid and thought this was the coolest shit. I mean the red and blue lights, the speed: oh the fast movements, it was crazy and to a small kid this was amazement but when I heard Disney (Only heard and not saw because the trailer premiered at the San Diego Comic Con and let’s be honest, it was never going to reach on the East Coast (Hollywood and their ilk likes to play in their own backyard.) until they were done with it but I was like, “No.”) decided to add a sequel to this movie, I was like, “Hollywood is already raping my childhood left and right so at this point, should I care.”
Apparently from the trailer which I’m going to present in a moment means I guess I can care just a little bit for a little longer. I mean it does have the original Flynn, Jeff Bridges reappearing in the movie along with Bruce Boxleitner. That alone has me intrigued, no.
One thing: The colors used to be red and blue, right? Now they are yellow and aqua?
Synopsis:
[Wikipedia] According to a Disney press release, the storyline for the film is: “Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidante (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Blood: The Last Vampire (2009)
I love movies with action, women in action, women doing something besides looking pretty and kicking ass in action. This movie based on the anime which I was watching over a year ago and thought it was great until I made the mistake of going to Wikipedia and inadvertently saw the ending which turned me off completely and never went back to it but Racialicious posted the live action trailer so I want to watch it but I check out the official’s site and couldn’t find a theater that will be showing in Connecticut or the Tri-state area. The movie will be released to U.S. theaters sometime in July.
The title character Saya is played by South Korean actress Jun Ju-Hyun has change her name to Gianna Jun. I believe it’s her first English speaking role and movie. Question: Why do Asian actresses seem to anglicise or just change their name in total for Western audience. I know I probably answered my own question by saying that but I could learn to say their name.
Synopsis:
[Filmofilia] Born to a human father and a vampire mother, 16-year-old Saya hides the tormented soul of a 400-year-old halfling. Though knowing that she too survives only on blood, this loner has been obsessed to get rid of vampires using her samurai skills for centuries. When she is sent onto an American military base in Tokyo, she sees it as the opportunity to destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires. Soon after befriending the young daughter of the base’s general, she learns about her true power.

MReview: Where the Truth Lies

Where the Truth Lies [Unrated Theatrical Edition] (2005)
M/M M/F
Synopsis:
[Netflix] Twenty years after beloved comedy team Vince (Colin Firth) and Lanny (Kevin Bacon) split up, journalist Karen O’Connor (Alison Lohman) investigates the mystery behind the duo’s demise in this crime drama. Back in the 1950s, Vince and Lanny were the darlings of showbiz, but then a beautiful girl was found dead in their hotel room, and though both funnymen had alibis, their longtime friendship ended. Can Karen uncover the truth behind the tragedy?
Review:
Okay: absolutely loved the mystery, the backstory, the flashfowards, but mostly I love that Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth were naked. I’m not saying naked for titillating purposes but I do like nudity and simulated sex in a film where it makes sense to have it. It was best because they were men, who for all purpose have a reasonably popular careers and they performed these scenes that only less popular male actors have done. Now I am not saying they’re brave because then I would have to say that male porn stars are superbrave for performing actual sex for us to enjoy, strikes me of hypocrisy. However it is the risk they took that I am impressed by as Hollywood still makes it hard for male actors to do these roles without stigma.
Now review it.
I love the movie, get it for your collection. I could say a lot about the movie but why, these actors, all of them are proven winners so getting them together seems a no-brainer. It was great just watching them do their work, especially Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth. I know this movie is about the reporter Karen but I would sometimes forget why she was there and preferred they stay in the past and watch those two work. Colin’s Vince beating the shit out of the guy in the bathroom was so… I hate to say cool, but it was as he was protecting his partner from that man’s bigotry. It was like they used Vince’s Englishman stereotype on the Americans and totally forgot they have not so proper gentlemen in England too.
Yeah, watch the movie.

The Dying Gaul (2004)
M/M M/F
Synopsis:
[Moviefone] In this psychological thriller, Robert (Peter Sarsgaard) is a screenwriter devastated over the loss of his lover to AIDS. To cope with his grief, he has written a screenplay that tells his lover’s personal story; to his surprise, a studio executive Jeffrey (Campbell Scott) offers him a million dollars for it. But there is a catch: He must change the central character to a woman. Wrestling with the dilemma he now faces, Robert finds himself drawn into a web of deceit and seduction from which there may be no escape.
Review:
I don’t know what to expect and that’s what I kind of got. It has a great start and middle but got weaker and I’m scratching my head with the ending. I did like the interconnections, the double meanings and dealings between the three main characters. l like how Jeffrey, the husband tells Robert that no one will want to see a gay love story all the while seducing the male writer into bed. I know I didn’t like how the wife insinuated herself into Robert’s life via email chatroom which slowly became internet stalking, what she did was super shady and she needed to be taught a rough lesson but the part that scratches my head was how she received her comeuppance. I mean really? At one point through the emails she was telling Robert not to die to live on past Malcolm but when Robert figure out who was stalking him, did she deserve or should I say should her family deserved the revenge Robert exacted?
I honestly couldn’t tell you if you should watch this movie as the ending still kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. However, there are part leading up to the end that is good so rent it. You decide.
